Octave privacy policy
The short version: Octave has no account, no servers, no ads and no analytics. It cannot connect to the internet. Everything you enter stays on your phone, and we never receive any of it.
Who we are
Octave is made by Aniket Indulkar (“we”, “us”). Contact: aniketindulkar.ms@gmail.com.
What Octave stores, and where
Octave stores the following only on your device, in the app’s private storage:
- the name you choose to enter (optional);
- your hobbies, including any you create, and the life dimensions and rhythm you give them;
- your check-ins: which hobby and which day, kept for up to one year;
- your settings: shape, appearance, sound, reduce motion, and reminders on or off.
We do not collect, receive, sell or share this information. It is never sent to us or to anyone else by the app.
What Octave does not do
- No account, sign-up or login.
- No internet access: the app does not request the Android internet permission, so it cannot send or fetch data.
- No advertising and no advertising ID.
- No analytics, crash reporting or tracking tools.
- No third-party SDKs that collect data.
- No access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos or files, other than a single backup file you pick yourself (see below).
Permissions
- Notifications – optional. Used only for the “Gentle nudges” evening reminder, which is created on your device. You can turn it off in the app or in Android settings at any time.
- Run at startup – used only to re-schedule that reminder and refresh home-screen widgets after the phone restarts.
Backups and exports you control
- Android device backup. If you have Android’s backup turned on, Android may include Octave’s data in your device backup, stored in your own Google account and handled under Google’s privacy policy. We have no access to it. You can turn this off in your phone’s backup settings.
- Back up / Restore in the app. If you use “Back up”, Octave writes one file to the location you choose. Where that file goes afterwards is up to you. “Restore” reads only the file you select.
Home-screen widgets
Widgets show your shape, weekly check-in count and hobby names on your home screen, where anyone who can see your unlocked phone can see them. Don’t add them if you would rather keep that private.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays on your device until you remove it. You can delete a hobby and its check-ins inside the app, clear everything with Android Settings › Apps › Octave › Storage › Clear storage, or uninstall the app. Because we hold none of your data, there is nothing for us to delete on request.
Children
Octave is a general-audience app and is not directed at children. As it collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children.
Changes to this policy
If Octave ever changes in a way that affects your privacy, this page will be updated and the effective date above will change before that version is released.
