Pebble privacy policy
In short: everything you put into Pebble stays on your phone. Pebble has no accounts, no servers, no advertising and no analytics, and it does not have permission to use the internet. NovaNest never receives your data.
Who is responsible
Pebble is developed and published by NovaNest, an independent developer. For anything in this policy, write to aniketindulkar.ms@gmail.com.
What Pebble stores
Pebble keeps the following in a private database on your device:
- Expenses you enter: amount, title, category, date, time and any note.
- Your categories and recurring expenses.
- Your settings: currency, theme, material, tray view, reduce motion, the app lock, and the Auto-add payments settings.
This database is stored in Android's app-private storage. It is excluded from Android cloud backup and from device-to-device transfer. It is not encrypted by Pebble beyond the protection Android gives to app-private storage.
Auto-add payments (notification access)
This feature is off unless you turn it on. Before Android asks you for notification access, Pebble shows a screen explaining what it does, and you must choose to continue.
When it is on and you have allowed notification access:
- Pebble reads notifications only from wallet and banking apps: a built-in list of such apps, and apps that identify themselves as a bank. Notifications from every other app, including messages and email, are ignored without their content being read.
- From a payment notification Pebble keeps three things: the amount, the merchant name, and the name of the app that showed the notification. These are saved as an ordinary expense that you can edit or delete. The rest of the notification is discarded.
- Notifications that are not payments (for example refunds, declined payments, balances, offers and security codes) are discarded.
- All of this happens on your device. Nothing read from a notification is sent anywhere.
You can switch individual apps off under Settings › Sources. You can stop the feature at any time by switching off Auto-add payments in Pebble, which disconnects Pebble from Android's notification service so that it receives no notifications, or by removing Pebble's notification access in Android settings.
App lock
If you turn on the lock, Pebble asks Android to confirm your fingerprint, face or screen lock. Android performs the check and tells Pebble only whether it succeeded. Pebble never sees or stores your biometric data, PIN, pattern or password.
Exporting your data
Export CSV writes your expenses to a file in the location you choose. From then on that file is outside Pebble's control. If you save it to a cloud folder, that provider's own privacy policy applies.
Data collected and shared
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Does NovaNest collect any data from Pebble? | No. Pebble does not transmit any data off your device. |
| Is any data shared with third parties? | No. |
| Does Pebble contain advertising, analytics or tracking code? | No. |
| Does Pebble connect to your bank or wallet account? | No. It never asks for a bank login. It only reads the notifications those apps show on your phone, and only if you turn that on. |
Google Play and Android
Pebble is distributed through Google Play. Google may collect information about installs and, if you have agreed to share usage and diagnostics with Google, anonymous crash and performance reports for apps on your device. Google handles this under its own privacy policy. NovaNest sees only aggregated statistics from Google and cannot identify you or see anything you have entered in Pebble.
Security
Your ledger is kept in Android's app-private storage, which other apps cannot read on an unmodified device. The optional app lock hides it from anyone using your unlocked phone and keeps it out of the recent-apps preview. Pebble does not add its own encryption, so the protection of your data depends on your device's screen lock and Android's own storage encryption.
Permissions Pebble uses
- Notification access (optional, granted by you in Android settings): to read payment notifications as described above.
- Biometric: to offer the optional app lock.
- Seeing whether specific wallet and banking apps are installed: to list them under Sources. Pebble can only see apps on its built-in list, not every app on your phone.
Pebble does not request internet, location, contacts, camera, microphone, SMS or storage permissions.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays on your device until you delete it. You can delete individual expenses, categories and recurring expenses in the app. Uninstalling Pebble, or clearing its storage in Android settings, permanently deletes everything. Because NovaNest holds none of your data, there is nothing for us to delete, correct or hand over on request.
If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland
- No personal data reaches us. Everything Pebble handles is processed on your own device, under your control. NovaNest does not receive, store or otherwise process it, and there are no international transfers.
- Consent for reading notifications. Pebble reads payment notifications only with your consent, which you give by turning on Auto-add payments, accepting the explanation screen and allowing notification access in Android. You can withdraw it at any time, as described above, and Pebble works fully without it.
- Your rights. You can see, correct and delete everything in the app itself, and take a copy with Export CSV. Because we hold none of your data, we have nothing to provide, correct or erase on request, but you are welcome to contact us with any question.
- Complaints. You have the right to complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).
If you are in California or another US state with a privacy law
- NovaNest does not collect, sell or share your personal information, and does not use it for advertising or profiling.
- Financial details read from notifications are used only on your device, only to record the expense, and only if you turn the feature on.
- You can access, correct and delete your information in the app at any time. Using these controls, or declining Auto-add payments, never limits what Pebble does for you.
Children
Pebble is a general-audience app. It is not directed at children under 13, and it does not collect personal information from anyone, of any age.
Changes to this policy
If Pebble's handling of data changes, this page will be updated and the effective date above will change. Material changes will also be described in the app's release notes.
